Gestalten’s Concrete Jungle takes us on a journey through the works of architects influenced by the tropical modernist style, from Luis Barragán to Paulo Mendes da Rocha to Marcio Kogan. The clash between rational architecture and the organic exuberance of tropical vegetation gave rise to some of the most visionary and futuristic buildings we know. Drawing on the concepts of the modernist style and the Bauhaus aesthetic, tropical countries such as Brazil and Mexico developed their highly unique visions of an international style and architecture that is both timeless and desirable, and continues to be highly influential around the world.
